One of the most entertaining golf bets in a tournament is betting on who will lead after the first round.
These bets offer a higher payout to some well-known golfers and give you the opportunity to bet on some golfers that you would normally stay away from. Also, you only need to watch the first round of the tournament to find out if your bet will pay off.
Remember that picking a winner in a golf tournament is hard enough. Identifying the first round leader is even more difficult, so I like to keep these bets to a minimum. It has to be much smaller bets than your normal bets.
Here are the top 10 odds on WynnBET to become the first round leader at this week’s Zurich Classics.
Chances on the leader of the first round of the Zurich Classic
- Cantlay/Shovel +1600

- Burns/Hoerchel +2000
- Fleetwood/Garcia +2200
- Lowry/Poultry +2800
- Niemann/Pereira +2800
- Varner/Watson +3000

Zurich Classic First Round Leader Pick
Predicting the first round leader is the same as predicting who will win the event, except you also need to look at how golfers perform in the first round of the tournament. To find out how to get a handicap at the Zurich Classic, check out my bet preview.
I already talked about why I like it when the pair of Billy Horschel and Sam Burns win on this week’s episode of Green on the Greens, but I think I want them even more to lead the first round at +2000.
They’re two guys who excel at birdies, which is great for Thursday’s best ball round. As an icing on the cake, they have the best first-round combined point average of any team. Horschel enters the event in sixth place with a 68.3 point first round average and Burns was 15th with 69.
Hand me the Horschel/Burns duo for a small lead on the first lap.
Choice: Horschel/Burns +2000
